Blossom Dearie
Bob first asked Blossom to sing for us
when he wrote Figure Eight. The unique innocence of Blossom's
voice over Bob's cello countermelody produces an almost haunting
sound.
So you can imagine what a thrill it was for me when Bob suggested we
ask Blossom to sing my first try at a Schoolhouse Rock song, Unpack
Your Adjectives.
When I first heard Blossom she was recording on Norman Granz's
Verve label. But then, in the early seventies, she struck out
on her own and formed Daffodil Records. Since then she's been releasing
her own recordings.
She has appeared in clubs all over the world and has a loyal international
following. She has also performed at Carnegie Hall with Anita O'Day
and Joe Williams.
One of the things I admire most about Blossom is what a superb accompanist
she is. Her playing builds a very sympathetic platform for her voice
and she never gets in her own way. One of the great opportunities
for New Yorkers is being able to catch Blossom during her frequent
appearances at Danny's Skylight Room. To get to Blossom's website where
